"Can You Hear Me?: Miss Sarah's Civil War Journals"
By: Gloria Kenmare Grant

Sarah has dedicated most her life to helping others. Now, she lies in a comatose state, listening to her memories as her daughter Marie reads aloud her journals of the Civil War.
Sarah just turned nine and her world is shattered as the Civil War begins. Now, she must face the hardships of being a child caught in the middle of a war.
This young girl must face this journey with faith and determination, a journey that will prove to be a challenge, as she sees the faces of good and bad people, and faces both good and bad times.

She starts her journey with no more than a knapsack and a deep faith in God.

These journals she left behind tell the story of her fears and joys, as we live through this terrible war though a child’s eyes.

"The Condemnation of Claymore Manor"

Doctors Robert and Ronald Claymore ran a successful medical clinic in Ardmore Oklahoma. When asked about their ancestry they would just casually mention they had descended from Scottish blood.

The telegram they received told them they immediately needed to go to Scotland to arrange for the burial of a cousin they never knew existed.

Upon their arrival in Scotland, they found they had inherited a castle called Claymore Manor. What they did not know was that this manor was cursed

They found that their cousin’s death was the same as all the Claymore men before him, strange, horrible, and unexplainable.

Faced by a two hundred year old curse that struck all men of Claymore blood, they found themselves on forbidden Scottish soil. They must find the answers to the strange and horrible death of their cousin before they too succumb to the same curse. Would they become the last of the great Claymore family of Scotland?

The country of Scotland is always beautiful. Nevertheless, if you were asking for my own humble opinion, June would win as the most beautiful month in Scotland. As you traveled the countryside, the yellow wild flowers and the many blooms of the Rhododendron were everywhere. The large homes and the huge fields of sheep and cattle combined with the small towns all clumped in a tight small space make the visitors from America smile. It seems everyone enjoys living close, not spread out as we Yanks are so use to. It also seems that each little town always has either one of the large castle type homes or the ruins of a castle or abbey near by.

Claymore Manor Estate was such a place, accessed by the narrow road that led up the hill, between the pastures with the rock walls separating them. At the top, you can see far down the valley. You can see the hundreds of sheep grazing in one pasture and the fat cattle in another. The small town includes the store, post office, two pubs, and a gift shop filled with handmade woolen products. Each house joins the other, and each one painted with pastel colors, blues, lilacs, yellow, and greens. It is just like a scene out of a movie, so it was breath taking at first.

As with all of Scotland’s clans, the Claymore Clan had a dark history. The story went that all the Claymore men had always carried names that began with R, the most favorite being Robert.

Through history, there had been nineteen Robert Claymores.

The one thing that helped distinguish one from the other was that every one of them had the maiden name of his mother, as his middle name.

There were also stories of the many ghosts that roamed the halls of the manor.

Down in the village there were more stories of betrayals and curses...

This is such a story.

"I Like My Cooking on the Wild Side," is written by Gloria Kenmare Grant, author of five mystery novels. Gloria grew up in the swamps just outside Mobile Alabama, in an area plentiful with wild life. Her family was rich in the ways of family, love and religion. But as most families in the 1940’s, they were poor in ways of finances. Wild meat was a family favorite; taught by a favorite Uncle to shoot, Gloria at an early age became an active hunter. Later Gloria lived in North Carolina and there she enjoyed Bear and Buffalo. Her love of the outdoors led her to bass fishing in the lakes of NC. Her Mama was always a great cook. She taught her girls to cook, nearly everything from the sea food of the Gulf to the things that lived in the swamps of Alabama.

"I Like My Cooking On The Wild Side" is a book filled with recipes from alligator to wild boar. You will find bison to geese and seafood to plants. Learn about the animal and ways to ready it with marinades, and last how to cook it. There are also bits of wisdom and wits thrown though out the pages.  Twelve years in the making, “I Like My Cooking On The Wild Side” is filled with recipes from all areas.

This Book is dedicated my Uncle Dirty Baby who put a rifle in my hands at the age of twelve. And to all the hunters in the world, and to my Mama and other ancestors who cooked most of the recipes in this book and to everyone who contributed to the gathering of these recipes. Check it out   @

Family history:..: the story about my uncle Dirty Baby, Yep, that's what we all called him.. Now this was back in the 40s and he made his living making shine back in the black water of the swamp. Most men in town knew him, and most was regular customers. Because he made the best shine that ever came out of them swamps. Now Uncle Dirty Baby loved to fish, so while the mash cooked off he settle in to catch some bass for supper. He had caught three or four fish and he had more bites than he could count, it was then he noticed he was almost out of bait.

Well, he didn't have any bait and he didn't have enough fish for supper so he started looking around for something to fish with.

Now over on a log ole Mr. Cotton mouth was trying to swallow this big old bull frog. And he wasn't paying attention as Uncle Dirty Baby snuck up and grabbed him by the neck.  Well, that frog was stuck real good in that ole snakes mouth and he was not too happy that Uncle was trying to pull it out. That's when Uncle Dirty Baby thought of the jar of shine in his pocket. So he holds that ole snake up and pours a bit down his mouth. Quicker than you could say Mississippi that old snake turned loose of that frog. Now Uncle had the frog and he put the snake back on the log. It just looked like it was dead, laying there not moving. Which gave Uncle Dirty Baby's conscience a little tug, after all he knew that ole snake was gonna be upset over losing his supper..

But, he baited his hook with that ole frog, and cast it out, He smiled as he watched a big old bass coming towards it and prepared to catch him. By now he had forgotten stealing that snake's frog. That bass was a smart one and was in no hurry to get caught. It was then that Uncle Dirty Baby felt something tap against his leg. But his eyes were on that fish and he kicked it away. He was going to set that hook in that big old bass.

Again he felt a tap, this was more persistent and much harder. So he looked down and saw it was that ole Cotton mouth, holding two frogs in it's mouth

Read About the Civil War as  seen from the side of a child:

In his final speech that he delivered in 1887, Jefferson Davis said

The past is dead; let it bury its dead, its hopes, and its aspirations. Before you lies the future, a future full of golden promise, a future of expanding national glory, before which all the world shall stand amazed. Let me beseech you to lay aside all rancor’s, all bitter sectional feeling, and to take your places in the ranks of those who will bring about a consummation to be wished—a reunited country.
